Member of Biden’s security team arrested in South Korea for assault while intoxicated [Video]

SEOUL (Reuters) – A member of President Biden’s forward security team has been arrested in Seoul on charges of assaulting a South Korean citizen while intoxicated a day before Biden’s visit, a report said. police announced on Friday.

The team member, who works for the Department of Domestic Security, was arrested on Thursday morning after fighting for a taxi, a Yongsan district police official told Reuters.

The incident happened outside the Grand Hyatt hotel, where Biden is expected to stay.

The police officer did not provide the name or other information about the suspect.

The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The White House referred the questions to the Secret Service, which did not immediately respond.

The Department of Homeland Security includes the Secret Service, the agency that protects the President. Members of the Secret Service have periodically been implicated in incidents related to misconduct abroad in the past.

Biden arrived in Seoul on Friday evening local time, South Korea being the first stop on his maiden trip to Asia as president.

TV Chosun, a South Korean broadcaster that first reported the incident, said the suspect was in his 30s and was arrested after another hotel guest called police.
